Sometimes a song immediately makes you think of someone. IHHR’s shout-out wall lets you share that moment with friends, family, and other listeners. It is a public written space on the station website, so the best messages are warm, specific, and comfortable for anyone to read.
What makes a good radio shout-out?
Start with the person or group, then add a reason. “Sending love to my sister for finishing her first project—tuning in from Newark” says more than “shout-out to everybody.” It gives the community a small story and leaves room for someone else to respond. You can mention a city or region if you want, but location is optional. Share only what you and the person you are greeting would be happy to make public.
You do not need an elaborate message. A sentence or two works: a birthday wish, encouragement before a long shift, thanks to a friend who introduced you to underground rap, or appreciation for a family member who keeps music in the house. Write in your own voice rather than trying to sound like a radio script.
Enter a display name and, if you choose, where you are tuning in from.
Write your greeting in the shout-out box and select Send shout-out.
Wait for station review. Approved shout-outs appear on the website’s public wall.
Sending a shout-out does not mean it will be read on air. The current feature is a reviewed website wall, and new submissions are held before they appear. That review helps the station keep the space welcoming.
Keep the dedication thoughtful and safe
Use first names or nicknames if that feels right, and leave out phone numbers, email addresses, street addresses, and private stories. The form does not accept links or personal contact details. A respectful, concise note is easier for everyone to enjoy and for the station to review.
